SABU - Hiroyuki Tanaka

Well, SABU made eight movies all together. Here I've posted SEVEN of them!!
Four of them are just amazing. - 'Monday', 'Postman Blues', 'Drive' and of course 'Unlucky Monkey' !!!!
for me it's impossible to pick a favorite one !!
In each of them is Shin'ichi Tsutsumi starring (I've got even the whole J-Drama 'Bus Stop' with him; so if you like,........)
Then there is 'Dangan Runner' & 'Hard Luck Hero' with their own charm, but 'only' GREAT, not FANTASTIC !!!
'Hold Up down' is somewhere between - at times absolutely hillarious.

One normal Monday morning, a man in a black suit wakes up in a posh hotel room. His memory is fuzzy; he has no idea of where he is, how he got there, or what happened the night before. Suddenly, a packet of purification salts (to ward off evil spirits) drops out of his pocket reminding him of a funeral he went to a few days earlier. He then remembers a café, a bar, some yazuka – Are they only parts of a dream or is it reality reaching out to him?

An exquisitely crafted black comedy about an ordinary man sucked deeper and deeper into extraordinary circumstances. Monday is shot through a series of flashbacks in a studied ‘SABU’ style that will keep you on the edge of your seat and wondering how one man’s life got so out-of-control!

Sabu is one of Japan’s hottest young filmmakers. His second feature, Postman Blues (’97), was successful at home and abroad, going on to receive acclaim from several international film festivals. Selected films: D.A.N.G.A.N. Runner (’96), Postman Blues (’97) and Unlucky Monkey (’98).
