Smith Micro has taken a full-page ad in the latest issue of 3D World magazine; all it says is "POSER 8" and, in a small logo, "SIGGRAPH 2009". The SIGGRAPH Conference will be held August 3rd-7th in New Orleans, and I take it that S-M will unveil Poser 8 there.

If they call it "Poser 8" at least it will allay some confusion. Presently we have Poser 7 and Poser Pro, which actually seems to be Poser v7.0.3 if you can unearth the version #. I can find nothing about "Poser 8" on the Smith Micro Website.

They really need to keep improving Poser, but I worry that it is being done without the support and input of the user base and by a company who may not be totally focused on making a great 3D app even better. Time will tell I guess.

Poser 8 sounds awesome. Hopefully they will improve upon a lot, mainly the figures. Hopefully the new figures ( the next victoria or something) will be less symetrical, and have more realistic details, like skin, hair etc. Also the joints needs a lot of improvement. But i'm pysched about this.

The most frustrating aspect of Poser for me has been the file structure and inconsistencies between characters in that structure. It would probably be too much to hope for a streamlined re-working of that aspect. But ya never know, right? Here's hoping for a better 8!

Before the 'real' thing - get ready for a load of rubbish being posted all over the net pertaining to be 8.
Then a lot of phoney cracks and S/n's.
Be patient.

I am already psyched for Poser 9 after hearing this. When is that coming out? :) :)

I've seen lots of people thinking Poser Pro is actually Poser 8. This could end in some confusion one the "real" Poser 8 is out.

By the way, has anybody ever made/seen anything for the two human figures that came with Poser Pro? Not Simon/Sydney, those ugly other two (does they even have a name?).

What i dream in poser (and never will be true)
Muscle structure - Like maya, c4d, 3dmax and any other character app. So the character could finally bend and move like any other living person and not like barbie.
Smart Clothes - DAZ improve a lot on this with morphfollowover
Soft Body Dynamics - So if you drop a ball on the character belly for example they will react to this, or if you make a shake hands for example.

All this is not impossible task, is just need a complete new software... So i think we could expect the same old poser and his bugs...

I believe daz have better chances of making a good software tham smithmicro.

Was on Runtime DNA yesterday and they had a full page about the new features of Poser 8. It has massive improvements however it still has a couple of things like the render engine that needs work. All in all I found it very impressive!:)

You can easily make a model assymetric by adjusting the parameters, especially of the face, assymetrically.
Also I usually set the blink on the eyes to about 40% since the models are usually staring otherwise.
Sub-surface-scattering on skin makes it a lot more realistic. There are SSS shaders with some DAZ models, e.g. Valeria.
But i'm still a newbie, of about 5 years standing, since I only dabble in 3d.
